Rabbit Lake

  • Opening in 1975, Rabbit Lake was the longest operating uranium mine in North America.
  • Over 41 years of mining, the operation produced more than 203 million pounds of uranium concentrates.
  • Rabbit Lake was transitioned into safe care and maintenance in the second quarter of 2016.
Operation(As of December 31, 2023)

2023 Q4 Update

Rabbit Lake remains in a safe state of care and maintenance following the suspension of production in 2016. While in standby, we continue to evaluate our options in order to minimize care and maintenance costs. We expect care and maintenance costs to range between $28 million and $32 million annually.

In October 2023, the CNSC granted a 15-year renewal to the licence for Rabbit Lake. The renewed licence is expected to allow Rabbit Lake to operate until October 2038 once it has resumed operations.
