Every year on June 21, Cameco proudly recognizes National Indigenous Peoples Day. Our northern Saskatchewan sites celebrated by inviting guests from local communities to enjoy traditional food and activities. Athabasca Catering provided a special menu including walleye, pork neckbones and stew with bannock. In addition to the feast, participants enjoyed displays of traditional crafts, tools and artifacts. Activities included drumming, oral storytelling and Métis square dancing.

Cameco is proud to energize inclusive communities, and we look forward to participating in the Many Colours Pride Parade in Saskatoon on Saturday. Watch for our blue T-shirts and say hi!

This week was the 12th annual Pinehouse Elders Gathering. Cameco was proud to sponsor Thursday’s events, including cooking supper for approximately 450 community members and visitors.

Leading up to National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, we'd like to introduce you to a few of Cameco's many Indigenous partners who contribute to Cameco's success and give back to their communities. Apprenticing as a pipefitter at Cameco’s Cigar Lake mine has been a perfect fit for Spencer Pacquette. “One of the things I’m really grateful for is working with experienced people on site,” says the product of Fond du Lac. “The people here are really helpful.” #NIPD2024

With 25+ years of leadership experience, Chief Tammy Cook-Searson of Lac La Ronge Indian Band joined Cameco’s board of directors in 2023. “I've always seen Cameco as very respectful and mindful of the northern communities, and in working with their leadership and staff over the years, everything is run so professionally.” #NIPD2024

Since retiring from a 33-year career with Cameco, Pinehouse’s Frank Natomagan has embraced a new role as site Elder for the Key Lake and McArthur River operations. "I didn’t realize how much I missed the people at site, so when this opportunity came, I felt it would be a great chance to re-engage and be back with family.” #NIPD2024

Megan Znack has been with Cameco for 14 years and she is Co-ordinator of Lodging & Facilities for our northern mining facilities. She pays particular attention to celebrating National Indigenous Peoples day, with programming, traditional foods and fellowship to support the Indigenous culture of half our northern workers.
