Port Hope, May 3, 2010
Cameco received the Port Hope and District Chamber of Commerce 2009 Excellence in Environmental Business award at the organization's annual business excellence awards dinner on April 17.
Andy Thorne, vice-president, fuel services division, accepted the award on behalf of Cameco, one of 69 nominees in nine different award categories. The Cameco citation pointed to how the company's nuclear fuel products are used to generate clean, carbon-free electricity and displace millions of tonnes of greenhouse gases annually.
The awards committee also noted that protecting the environment is one of Cameco's core values and that the company has many measures and programs in place to accomplish that goal. The company's support for the new Ganaraska Forest Centre, which helps to educate people about forests and the environment in general, was also mentioned.
