Communities

Terri Lemke

Terry Lemke, past chair of the Cameco women build.

Our long-term success depends on maintaining our social licence to operate. For this reason, Cameco has established supportive communities as a key measure of success. This means we are committed to building and sustaining the trust of local communities. Cameco has a formal relationship with more than 25 communities in its Canadian operations alone. But the necessity for strong community relationships extends to all Cameco operations worldwide - to the steppes of southern Kazakhstan where we are building a new uranium mine and mill, to the US where we mine and mill uranium in Nebraska and Wyoming, and to the Northern Territory of Australia where we are exploring to expand our uranium resources.

Social, economic, and cultural customs vary dramatically in each region, reflecting the diversity of human dynamics and demanding different approaches and solutions. Regardless, our operations are all bound by a common principle: to maximize the operation's positive impacts on local communities and to minimize the negative.
