CNSC releases synthesis report on Port Hope health studies

(The following statement is copied from the opening paragraph of the CNSC synthesis report released April 15, 2009.)

Many health studies have been performed throughout the years because of the historical and current presence of the nuclear industry in the community of Port Hope, Ontario and because some residents have expressed concerns about possible health effects in the community.

The Commission Tribunal therefore requested that the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) staff draft a report that would amalgamate the results and conclusions of all Port Hope health studies commissioned over the years.

Based on the environmental and epidemiological studies conducted in Port Hope and the findings of research studies conducted in other countries, the CNSC concludes that no adverse health effects have occurred or are likely to occur in Port Hope, as a result of the operations of the nuclear industry in the community.
