Cameco and Health Canada have each issued fact sheets to put into perspective the results of urine testing conducted for the Port Hope Community Health Concerns Committee on a small group of Port Hope residents. On November 13, the community group announced the results of the testing at a news conference in Toronto. The information resulted in widespread media coverage that, despite the fact test results showed that the amount of uranium in the urine of test subjects is consistent with background levels found in people anywhere, suggested Port Hope residents face increased health risks.
The Health Canada fact sheet was distributed at a Port Hope Municipal Council meeting on November 20, 2007.
