Wednesday, April 4, 2007, Port Hope - Cameco Corporation announced today that it will be donating copies of Ian Montagnes' new book, "Port Hope: A History" to schools and libraries in west Northumberland County.

Book Launch
More than 200 people were on hand at the Port Hope Public Library for the launch of "Port Hope: A History". From left to right are: Bob Steane, vice-president, fuel services division, Cameco; Canadian author and Port Hope resident Farley Mowat; local author Ian Montagnes; and John de Visser, who provided 32 photographs for the book.

Bob Steane, vice-president of Cameco's fuel services division, was on hand at the book launch to announce the donation.

"Learning about local history is important for all of us but particularly for our children," Steane told the audience at the Port Hope Public Library.  "Providing access to the first book on local history published in over 100 years will help children in the area to learn about Port Hope's long, and proud history."

Every elementary and high school in Port Hope, Cobourg and Hamilton Township, including Port Hope's Trinity College School, will receive copies of the book.  Copies will also be donated to the Port Hope Public Library, the Garden Hill Public Library and the Cobourg Public Library, which includes libraries in Bewdley and Gore's Landing.

Author Ian Montagnes said, "I spent hundreds of hours in the Cameco Local History Room researching this book and am delighted that the company will be making copies of it available to local schools and libraries."

Steane also reported that the company has purchased 200 hard cover copies that will be presented as gifts to foreign business contacts to help promote the community.
