1.8 million hours of safety
Blind River, Ontario, Canada, January
26, 2001
Cameco Corporation's Blind River refinery continues to set the standard for safety in industry. Today the employees recorded 11 years without a lost-time accident.
"Safety has become part of our every day work, and we are proud to promote ‘thinking safely' as an essential part of our lives both inside and outside of the workplace," said refinery manager Catherine Green.
"Achieving 11 years without an injury is a remarkable accomplishment and one to be proud of. Not only does it represent more than 1.8 million hours and 4,000 days without a lost time injury, it continues to be an enviable record within the chemical business," said Green.
A lost-time accident is one in which the time lost from an injury extends beyond the day of the injury, preventing an employee from returning to work. The last one occurred January 25, 1990.
Cameco, with its head office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is the world's largest uranium supplier. The company's uranium products are used to generate electricity in nuclear energy plants around the world, providing one of the cleanest sources of energy available today. Cameco's shares trade on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges.
