What is RSS?

RSS is a format used to publish and deliver frequently updated content such as news headlines.

An RSS document (called a ‘feed’) summarizes recently published content. Using RSS reading software, site visitors can allow the software to do the work of checking for updates.

Benefits of RSS

RSS readers grab the RSS feeds from various sites and display them for you to read. Using an RSS reader, you can stay informed by getting the latest content from websites. You also save time by receiving notification of updates instead of checking individual sites for new content.

How to use RSS

With Your Browser:
Internet Explorer 7, Firefox and Safari offer RSS subscription capabilities. Browsers that support RSS subscription will indicate that a site has available feed subscriptions by displaying an RSS icon or button in the browser’s toolbar or address bar. When you see the RSS button, you can click it to view your subscription options for that site.

RSS icons may differ from browser to browser. The most commonly used buttons are: RSS button and RSS icon.

With a Newsreader or Aggregator:
If your browser doesn’t support RSS subscriptions, you can use software called a newsreader or aggregator. This software can be:
