Cameco Corporation (TSX: CCO; NYSE: CCJ) announced today that it is opening an office in India and has appointed Dr. Chaitanyamoy Ganguly president.
Dr. Ganguly, who has held senior executive positions with International Atomic Energy Agency and the Government of India's Department of Atomic Energy, will lead Cameco's business activities in India, advise the company on developments and opportunities in the country's fuel markets, and represent Cameco in its dealings with the Indian government.
"The establishment of our office in India and appointment of Dr. Ganguly, who is well-known in India's nuclear community, demonstrate our intention to develop this emerging nuclear market," said Jerry Grandey, Cameco's president and chief executive officer. "We are confident that Dr. Ganguly's knowledge, experience and leadership, combined with our ability to provide customers with a secure, reliable uranium supply will help us gain a solid footing in this promising market."
Dr. Ganguly begins his new role with Cameco on October 1, 2009 and will work out of the company's new office in Hyderabad.
Cameco, with its head office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is one of the world's largest uranium producers. The company's uranium products are used to generate electricity in nuclear energy plants around the world, providing one of the cleanest sources of energy available today. Cameco's shares trade on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges.
