Cameco owns and operates Saskatchewan's longest-running uranium production facility at Rabbit Lake. Ore from Eagle Point underground mine is processed at the Rabbit Lake mill. Together, the mine and mill employ about 300 people. Like all of Cameco's northern Saskatchewan sites, Rabbit Lake operates on a week-in/week-out rotational schedule, and employees commute to the operation by aircraft. Robyn is one of two radiation specialists at Rabbit Lake who provide technical support to the radiation department. She analyzes dosimetry and monitoring data to provide guidance on how to reduce radiation exposure for certain jobs on site. Safety is one of the foundations of Cameco's corporate values and Robyn plays an instrumental role in the site's efforts to reduce radiation exposure to levels that are as low as reasonably achievable, known as the ALARA principle.
MEET OUR PEOPLE
I feel like I can make a difference here. From Day 1, I got to jump right in and take on responsibility in some of the projects going on at Rabbit Lake. For example, I was able to reduce radiation sampling in the mill by nearly 15% per month by finding work areas that have experienced the same radiation levels for the past 10 years. This has improved efficiency at site without compromising workers' safety.
I like being in a job where my skills are appreciated. Even though I'm one of the newest employees in our department, my co-workers are willing to hear my ideas and they have helped me learn things quickly.
